Jon Burton

Sound Engineer & Senior Lecturer , University of Derby

Jon is a live sound engineer with over 35 years of concert touring experience, having worked with acts like The Prodigy, Stereophonics and currently Biffy Clyro.

He stepped back from full-time touring in 2019 to take a teaching role at the University of Derby. Having been involved in education informally for over 30 years, providing guest lectures and training across the world, Jon has used his touring experience to inform his teaching at Derby. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Entertainment Engineering, teaching on the BSc (Hon) Sound, Light & Live Event Engineering and MSc Audio Engineering degrees.

Jon is actively involved not just in teaching but also in developing curriculum; in what is taught, working with industry colleagues to help make university education relevant to the workplace.

Jon is a founder and Vice-Chair of the HELA Initiative, an international certification in hearing health and noise awareness. Jon is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Companion of the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.

He is also currently a part-time student, studying for a PhD in Audience Auditory Experiences, and holds an MSc in Music Technology.
